Step-by-Step Drawing Tutorial: Realistic Eye

Step-by-step drawing tutorial: realistic eye

Ok so obviously the shape of something is really important when drawing, but the key to having your drawing look realistic is the shading.

1. Draw an almond or a seed shape with a slight extension on the inner side (so on the left side for a right eye or on the right side for a left eye).
2. Mark off that extension and the pointy end to create an internal rounded seed shape inside.
3. Draw as perfect a circle as possible with the bottom of the circle start from the center of the bottom of the seed. Draw this somewhat lightly as parts will be erased.
4. Erase any part of the circle that was outside the initial seed shape. Add an iris and an almost box shape inside the circle.
5. Add eyelashes, having the bottom of the lashes touch just outside of the seed shape. The eyelashes should increase in length and quantity from the extension to the point.
6. Add a wiggly shape to fill up the majority of the circle left. This can be somewhat rough, it's just a guide.
7. Color the iris and the outside of the circle darkly.
8. Shade from those dark spots to the wiggly shape getting lighter and lighter. Leave the box, the inside of the wiggly shape and just below the iris white.
9. Darken the top gap between the seed shape and the eyelashes, darken the eyelashes, and add an eyelid.

10. Now repeat on the other side!
