Smoothie of the Week: What to Get When You Go Out

{http://lperry.wordpress.com/2008/07/24/}
So while making smoothies at home is great, a lot of the time, wanting one while you're out and about is more plausible. Major drink chains like Jamba Juice, Orange Julius and Sonic can easily make that strawberry-banana smoothie that you're craving without a second thought.

However, the benefit of making smoothies at home is you know exactly what you are putting into it. This benefit leads to being able to pick a healthier alternative when offered if wanted. Thus, when you're ordering out, you need to be careful.

Jamba Juice gives "light" alternatives. If you pick a fruity option, take it "light", you're fine.

Starbuck's Vivanno smoothies, made with skim milk, are healthy if your smoothie needs take you there.

Emerald City "light" alternatives contain both fiber and protein, however the calorie count can vary

Dannon's "Light & Fit" line is healthy for on-the-go.

In general, go light. While that may mean some Splenda-esque additions, the main substitution is the milk. Berry flavors also tend to be better for you then some of the other fruity flavors, and always opt for fruit over anything else.

Hope this helps on your smoothie outings!
