| {families wait in line for ice cream} |
This weekend, the Food Truck Festival of New England came to Boston on Mother's Day. Coinciding with Lilac Sunday at the Arnold Arboretum, the Food Truck Festival had a range of trucks present, from Batch Ice Cream to Frozen Hoagies. Hundreds of families attended the festival, enjoying the good food, nice weather and pretty scenery.
When we saw a sign for this Food Truck Festival, we jumped at the chance to eat.

Eliza: Food trucks are on trend. They are popping up everywhere, from college campuses to just on the street any given afternoon. This festival sounded like an amazing opportunity to taste-test and experience full on this new fad. However, the idea was better than the result. When you cram 100+ visitors into a little area designated for food trucks... the end game is not ideal. However, after our hour of waiting for a bon me, it was worth it. I've never had a bahn mi, but have been dying to try one for a while now. The sandwich did not disappoint. The moral of the story is food trucks by themselves are fantastic but together with lots of crowds is not.
Daphne: I really enjoyed the food truck festival. I'd never been to one, and I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the Arnold Arboretum was a perfect location, especially for Mother's Day. There were a lot of nice places to sit, and there was a huge range of trucks. As Eliza and I were walking around, we saw all types of food; there were ice cream sandwiches, barbeque pork, Chinese food, slushies... Everything you could want on an 80 degree day. This variety made this food truck festival successful, as people did not just congregate to one line. For lunch, Eliza and I decided to wait in line for Bon Me. Even though it took us over an hour to get our Vietnamese sandwich, it was worth it. I wouldn't say that it was the best Vietnamese sub that I've ever had (the ones I've had in New York City just can't be beat), but the friendly atmosphere made the experience enjoyable. I love food, and I loved being surrounded by people who love food just as much as I do.
